Let’s talk about mini rollers.
They’re small.
They’re handy.
They are absolutely not for painting your entire living room.
Mini rollers are made for the little things.
Think:
Anywhere that feels too small for a big roller but too time-consuming for a brush — this is your middle ground.
A lot of beginners grab foam rollers first.
We’re not sure why.
Maybe because they look clean and easy?
But the truth is, foam rollers don’t apply paint well.
They leave streaks.
They can bubble.
And they’re just not great at holding paint in the first place.
If you’ve got a foam roller in your cart, maybe just… gently roll it away.
If you’re painting doors, trim, or smooth cabinet surfaces, try a mohair mini roller.
It lays down paint evenly and cleanly. No brush marks. No dragging.
It’s great for detail work, and it holds up well across projects.
Another solid option is velour — also smooth, also consistent.
Great if you’re working on furniture or fine interior surfaces.
For small textured areas — like a bumpier wall or a surface with light texture — a microfiber mini roller is the way to go.
It grabs more paint. It rolls more easily. It’s not ideal for doors, but it’s perfect for the occasional rough patch.
So the next time you’re eyeing your cabinets or prepping a hallway door, skip the full-size roller.
And please skip the foam. Grab a mohair or microfiber roller instead.
Your project (and your finish) will thank you.
