Exterior Painting in Minneapolis, MN
Minneapolis houses wear a century of weather: stucco with hairline cracks, foursquare clapboard, porch ceilings and detached garages out by the alley. Our crew patches, scrapes and primes what each surface needs, then applies coatings that can ride out January cold and sticky August heat.
Minneapolis Exterior Painting Built on Prep
What happens before color goes on
- Stucco Patched, Then Coated: Stucco covers a huge share of older Minneapolis houses, and winter is hard on it. Water works into hairline cracks, freezes, and opens them a little wider each year. We clean the surface, fill cracks with a compatible patch, let repairs set, and finish with a breathable masonry coating that lets the wall dry outward.
- Alley Garages Included: Most Minneapolis blocks have alleys, and the detached garage back there often gets ignored until its siding is bare. We scrape and prime garage walls, service doors and overhead doors along with the house, so the whole lot matches. Working from the alley also means planning around collection days and neighbors backing out of their stalls.
- Porch Ceilings and Columns: Open front porches are a Minneapolis signature, and their ceilings, beadboard, columns and railings take sideways rain and trapped humidity. We sand flaking ceilings, check column bases for rot, make spot carpentry repairs, and brush enamel into every groove. A finished porch is often what neighbors notice first, so we give it unhurried attention.
Why Our Exterior Painting Suits Minneapolis Homes
Old houses, tight lots, big trees
- Boulevard Trees and Mildew: Minneapolis plants trees along its boulevards and parkways, and on streets near Minnehaha Parkway or Lake Nokomis the canopy keeps many walls in shade. Shaded siding dries slowly after rain, so mildew and algae settle in. We wash those walls with a mildew cleaner, rinse, wait for them to dry, and recommend mildew-resistant finishes where sunlight rarely reaches.
- Close Neighbors, Narrow Yards: In Cooper, Folwell and Windom, houses often sit only a few feet apart, so a side wall may face a neighbor's windows, car or garden. We cover what sits next door, angle ladders with care, and talk with you about reaching your neighbor before we set up on a shared strip of grass. Clearing walkways at day's end comes standard.
- Older Paint, Lead-Safe Methods: A large portion of Minneapolis housing predates 1978, so original siding, sills and trim may carry lead paint beneath newer coats. When we scrape or sand those surfaces, we spread ground sheeting, contain chips, collect debris daily and clean thoroughly at the end. Gardens, play areas and the yard next door stay clear of old paint.
