Cabinet painting is the single highest-impact interior project we do across Delaware, and the kitchens that reach out are usually one of two houses: a 1980s or 1990s Wilmington, Newark, or Dover build with honey oak that has read dated since roughly 2015, or a Middletown, Bear, or Sussex kitchen with builder-grade maple or alder that never suited the client. Both refinish beautifully, but prep is different: oak needs its heavy grain filled if the client wants a truly smooth face, and maple needs a stain-blocking primer to keep tannins from bleeding through lighter colors. Two-tone kitchens dominate the requests we see across Middletown, Bear, and Newark: warm off-white perimeters paired with a saturated island in deep navy, forest green, or a warm charcoal. Older Wilmington and Newark remodels lean into layered earth tones with brushed brass or matte black hardware, which asks the finish to be flatter and harder-wearing than a typical semi-gloss. The finish schedule is built for a sprayed, hand-leveled result on doors and drawer fronts, with brush-and-roll only where a spray simply cannot go without masking the entire house.

Delaware kitchens work hard: humid summers, gas ranges, and long heating cycles push grease and film onto cabinet fronts long before the finish itself fails. Crews degrease with a real cleaner rather than a wipe-down, sand for adhesion, and use a cabinet-grade waterborne alkyd that cures hard enough that a rag with soap does not lift color months later.
