Our experience with this company was a roller coaster. This review would only be two stars if not for the fact that the owner responded to all forms of communication very quickly and never ghosted me which I truly respect. He also tried his best to make reparations for everything that would and did go wrong. Our project was, apparently, the “never had this happen before” scenario. Our timeline went from two weeks to 5 weeks including late nights and weekends causing significant negative domino effects in our lives. We have a big house that had popcorn ceilings, rooms that had layers of wallpaper, newly put up drywall/trim and sheet rock repair due to foundation repair. It was a big job and the expense was the most we paid to any single vendor/contractor for renovations but we understood the labor involved was significant and happy to pay a professional. The promises over and over of being able to make our initial deadline and then the quality of work, which is very inconsistent, (we have noticed more as we are now living in the house) is what turned this into a very negative experience. The work done included paint, mud, tape and texture along with sheet rock repair. Some areas are very well done while others you could tell fatigue, inexperience or laziness got the best of the crew (there were several sets of crew). The crews were certainly not my “best house guest”. The various crew’s treatment of our home in clean up and care of the property were that of a commercial site even after very specific requests for care of the property by me to the owner had been discussed. Some crews were more considerate than others. Again, the owner did his best but it was reaction vs prevention or a proactive approach. The owner, Dylan, did take responsibility for our job gone wrong and continued to try and fix all the mistakes. That is commendable. However, there was a point at the end where one fix would cause a new problem. At this point, we just needed to move on. I do know they are using this job as a learning experience but it really is not a great feeling to be the example of what not to do when you’ve paid someone half your yearly salary to figure that out when you thought you were paying for a job well done. I would not use That 1 Painter East Texas again or recommend them. Maybe if you have a simple paint job or repair they would be just fine to use.
