Hey 2021, Color Is Back!

A short history of color

COLOR IS BACK! For those just waking up from the pandi-coma, color came back into our homes between 2019-2020. So many of us are still stuck on whites and grays, but the fact is, that started phasing out in 2019. Heck, has anyone else heard that Blush is the new White? We’ll talk about it later because I’m still wrapping my head around that. First, let’s get into the past few years in color.

So, PPG’s color of the year in 2019 was Night Watch (PPG1145-7), a sultry, black-infused green that brought the great outdoors inside. Sherwin Williams did not fall short in 2020 with their color of the year as the rich, calming, and grounding navy blue called Naval (SW 6244).

And now there’s 2021. What happened after being locked up in our homes for almost an entire year? Living, schooling, and working all in the same structure 24/7 – people were starting to feel their walls close in on them.  We all had to take a step back because our living spaces changed. Now, we want our home to signify serenity, comfort, and reflection, with each space having its own purpose.

If you want to get color back in your home, call your local That1Painter to get the job done. No job is too big or small, and we can accomplish whatever needs to be done in your home.

So, when I say color is back:

Oh… it’s back! It reminds me of the cycles we went through back in 2006-2008 where we had the dark and/or bright colors on walls and each room was a different color. But, in 2021 there is purpose. Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, PPG have put palettes together that are bold, yet muted.

Sherwin Williams’ 2021 color of the year is Urbane Bronze (SW 7048).). Benjamin Moore’s COTY is Aegean Teal (2136-40) and PPG’s couldn’t even pick a color and decided to do Palettes of the Year (huh?). What. Did. The. Pandemic. Do. To. Us? I’ll tell you what it did. It made us realize that our home should be a true reflection of who we are!

Make it your own!

You want that fuchsia room? Check out PPG’s Cerise (PPG17-11). Feeling that red room or accent wall? Sample out HGTV Home by Sherwin William’s Passionate (HGSW2032). Or are you looking to make that bathroom more spa-like? Benjamin Moore’s Gray Cashmere (2138-60) paired with Aegean Teal (2136-40) will get you started. The point is you are who you are; let your home reflect that too…
